Fall Prevention Programs
Falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults, but many of them can be prevented with the right care and support. A Physical Therapist plays a key role in helping people reduce their risk of falling by improving balance, strength, coordination, and confidence with movement.
During a fall prevention program, your PT will begin with a thorough assessment to identify your unique risk factors—such as:
- Muscle weakness
- Joint stiffness
- Poor balance
- Difficulty with walking
From there, they design a personalized plan that may include balance training, strengthening exercises, gait practice, and flexibility work.
They also provide education on safe ways to move at home and in the community, as well as recommendations for assistive devices or home modifications if needed.
These programs not only help reduce the risk of falls but also restore independence and peace of mind.
By addressing both the physical and environmental factors that contribute to falls, physical therapy empowers you to stay active, safe, and confident in your daily life.
